Pope Leo XIV has concluded his three-day visit to Lebanon - wrapping up his first international trip as leader of the Catholic Church.
The Pontiff has offered prayers at the site of the 2020 Beirut port blast, one of the final stops in his three-day visit to Lebanon.
The Catholic leader prayed silently and lit a lamp on Tuesday morning at a monument to the more than 220 people that were killed and 6,500 injured in the explosion. The United States-born pontiff has urged peaceful coexistence across the Middle East during his inaugural trip abroad.
With mounds of rubble and the remains of the devastated facility within sight, the Pope shook hands, blessed and spoke with each one of the survivors and relatives of victims who were present.
“We are very grateful for this visit from the Pontiff,” said Cecile Roukoz, a lawyer whose brother died in the explosion. “We know that he raises his voice” for justice “and we need justice for our brothers and all the victims of this explosion”.

Eagle Mujinga manages workers at Shabara cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). As the world's biggest producer of cobalt, the DRC is a part of the chain that fuels electric vehicles and renewable energy worldwide. Miners in the DRC face dangerous working conditions and earn, on average, a few dollars per day to supply the multibillion-dollar industry.

Eagle is caught in the middle when unrest grows among miners who accuse foreign buyers of underweighing and undervaluing the cobalt they extract. Once a miner himself, can Mujinga navigate demands from the miners while maintaining relations with foreign buyers?

Japan–China tensions have led to multiple Japanese cultural events in China being abruptly cancelled.
Singer Maki Otsuki was escorted offstage in Shanghai, with organisers blaming “unavoidable circumstances”.
Concerts by Ayumi Hamasaki and Yuzu were also halted, angering fans and promoters.
The cancellations follow remarks by Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi suggesting Japan could intervene militarily if China attacked Taiwan.
Beijing has demanded she retract the comments, accusing Japan of being “evasive and obstinate”.
China has since banned Japanese seafood, frozen youth exchanges, and restricted flights and film releases.
Analysts warn Japanese cultural exports may face long-term damage if the dispute deepens.
